Never Met A Stranger serves as a collaborative platform for the production of art and experimental media, a publisher of vernacular arts and culture, and an ongoing archive of field recordings, interviews, and documentary resources that collectively explore relationships between perception and representation, industry and environment, and landscape and culture that exist beyond the confines of mainstream media.

Never Met a Stranger is a collaboration between artists Jeremy Drummond and David Poolman and since 2015, is the primary focus of their research and creative work.

In this interview, Dom Flemons (founder of the African-American string band, The Carolina Chocolate Drops) discusses his research into the untold history of African American cowboys in the postbellum Civil War South. Flemons performs Goodbye, Old Paint, a traditional ballad that was part of a musical interchange between freed slaves across the United States in the late 19th century.
